why I'll miss school

Finals are over for me and I'll be graduating next week. Next Monday to be exact. After almost 2 years working my butt off to finish my degree, it's kind of over and it's pretty bittersweet. I'm ready to graduate, but I've met some pretty awesome people that I'm going to miss . . .

We're the first Digital Photo students to graduate (well, technically, Tara was the first, but they lump the Winter and Spring graduations together)  at my school and since there wasn't a huge selection of classes to take each quarter, we were kind of stuck with each other. But stuck in the best kind of way possible.

I've had a lot of different families over the years. Each base I've been stationed at has a different one and I remember each one. These people have become my school family. My family away from home. We've been through night classes we've been thisclose to falling asleep in. A lot of "um's" and "so's" and getting out of class at 10:30 instead of 10.

They've made the last couple of years fun and I'm going to miss them as much as I've missed any of my other families.

I'm going to miss seeing their faces every quarter. :(

this is strange

I guess it's a good thing when I have less blog drafts than published posts. It kind of makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something, rather than spending copious of time on Tumblr. Which I totally don't do.

My number of drafts on this blog have dwindled and there are twice as many posted updates. Yay! I blame the new school and the new major. But it's the best kind of blame. I feel more creative because I get to do about a billion more creative things than I did in culinary.

And I'm not saying culinary isn't creative, it's very creative. Just not for this girl. My brain doesn't work on a culinary level like it does on a techie level. It seems so much easier for me and it doesn't hurt my head. Even as I write this post, I'm done with all my homework for this week and I was assigned it yesterday. I wrote character backgrounds for my latest novel and ten more ideas came to me.

I dunno. It makes me feel like I'm back to normal.

Well, as normal as I can get, anyway.

getting the groove back

It's taken some time, but I'm finally back in the frame of mind to want to write again. It kind of came as a surprise that I'm itching to pick up a pen or get on a computer to write and not sit around feeling like a lost puppy. It's the first time in a while I actually want to write, and it makes pretty happy.

I'm on spring break right now and I know the week's going to fly by, but I'm excited about getting some writing, reading and blog updating in before the hectic-ness of school begins again.

I'm really glad this quarter is over, though. The past 11 weeks have somehow managed to be the hardest ever. I'm not sure if it was the homework load or more classes than I could handle, but the quarter left me exhausted. It tested my patience and a little bit of my confidence. It also makes me a little proud I survived it without going completely insane. This mini vacation is just what I need to keep me in the right frame of mind.

First Days

The first day of 3rd grade was today. There'd been much nervousness leading up to this morning, but it managed to go off without a hitch.

I just can't believe how quickly time has gone by. Every time I turn around, the year's go by a little faster. Sometimes, I don't feel I'm ready for it. Pfff, let's be honest. Not even close to being ready for my kiddo to grow up.
There's just one thing I want an answer to.

How did she go from this:

More dysfunctional than the norm

I have a new favorite show, even though the show's been cancelled for three years. "Arrested Development" is a surprisingly refreshing humorous show. The Bluth's possibly the most dsyfunctional TV family I've seen in a very long time. I can't even begin to describe it. From Gob (pronounced Job), the talentless magician to Lindsay, the self-centered activist, everyone in the family brings something to the table. I've treated myself to mini-marathons in between the daily grind that is my life.

How can you not love this family?

I finished two of my classes and I just started two more this week. Strangely enough, one of the classes is being taught by an author I have a few books by. She's my English 102 class. I guess she tells me I suck at writing, I can probably give up my novel writing dreams for good.

I also stole, I mean borrowed, these photos my best bud uploaded on her myspace page from our time as bridesmaids.
I love this picture. Aren't we all purdy? We look happy, natural and not at all stressed about being bridesmaids. But I still stick by the theory that we were probably the worst bridesmaids in history and we should have been fired at the wedding. And my arms don't look that huge.

Also, I've actually written more of my book, and at this point, (but even that will be replaced soon) I have 57 pages. That's really huge for me. Like I might actually finish writing this thing for once.

Homecoming

This is completely inspiring for me.

Trying Not To Do Work

I should be finishing my 3 - 5 page final for one of my classes, but I'm finding everything else in the world 10 times more interesting than doing what I need to be doing. I've been catching up on all my Hollywood gossip, like are Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen really engaged? I don't know, but now I really need to know. Well, not really, but it's a hell of a lot more interesting than school work. Even looking up songs I don't know the title to on Itunes is a billions time more fun than homework. I'm even willing to sit through the Cowboys-Eagles game to avoid it, and I'm not a Dallas fan. Not even close, but I will admit to partially watching on account of Tony Romo, hee. But I should get back to my very, very sad little paper that I'm sure will suck lolipops.
